Alliyah McNeil wins indoor high jump at NCAA meet
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Alliyah McNeil of the University of Minnesota won the women’s high jump at the Leonard Hilton Memorial held at the University of Houston’s Yeoman Fieldhouse on Friday, clearing 1.80m.
The former St Elizabeth Technical High athlete however failed to break her indoor personal best of 1.81m but is tied for the fourth best clearance in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 1 so far.
At the same meet, former William Knibb Memorial athlete Kaylea Demetrius of Division 2 Texas A&M University- Kingsville threw 11.94m in the shot put for 15th place.
Shaquena Foote of the University of San Diego, ran a personal best 7.35 seconds for third in the women’s 60m at the University of Nevada Silver and Blue Invitational at the Biggest Little City Indoor Track in Reno.
The former Petersfield High runner, beat her previous best 7.43 seconds set last year and entered the school’s top 10 all time in sixth position.
Britannia Johnson of the University of Purdue threw a personal best 18.11m to place sixth in the women’s weight throw on the first day of the University of Kentucky Rod McCravy indoor meet.
The former Camperdown High thrower, beat her previous best of 17.73m set in December at the Blue Demon Holiday Invite.
Her twin sister Britannie finished 10th with a mark of 17.09m.
Triple jumper Luke Brown of the University of Kentucky qualified for the men’s 60m final set for Saturday after running 6.82 seconds in Friday’s prelims.
Oneika McAnuff, also of the University of Kentucky, ran a personal best 37.48 seconds to win the women’s 300m.
