Foreign nationals among four caught with illegal gun, ammo in downtown Kingston
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Two foreign nationals are among four people who have been charged with possession of prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition after a firearm was seized during a traffic stop on Princess Street in downtown Kingston on Wednesday.
Charged are:
- twenty-two-year-old Antuan Latchman of Woodville Road, London in the United Kingdom;
- thirty-four-year-old Javid Johnson, a medical doctor of Mount Vernon, New York in the United States of America;
- thirty-seven-year-old Shaday Rampassard, a nurse of Mount Royal Estate, Bridgeport in St Catherine; and
- twenty-six-year-old Akeem Sang, a higgler of Congreve Park, Bridgeport in St Catherine.
Reports from the Denham Town police are that about 11:35 pm, the four people were travelling in a Suzuki Swift motor car when a police team detected a breach of the Road Traffic Act and intercepted the motor car.
While interviewing the driver of the motor car, the police said they observed a firearm in a handbag inside the motor vehicle.
The firearm was taken from the handbag and upon inspection, it was observed to be a Glock 19 pistol with a magazine affixed containing 11 9mm rounds of ammunition, police said.
The four people were taken into custody and were later charged.
Their court dates are being finalised.
