Reggae Youths seek third-straight win
Two-time champions Reggae Youths will be going after a third-straight win when they take on defending champions Granville United FC in a Zone A St James Football Association/Sandals Resorts International Major League game at the UDC Field today at 3:30 pm.
Reggae Youths are in second place in Zone A on six points from two games, a point behind leaders Lilliput Rovers, who have played three games, while Granville are yet to earn a point, losing both games played so far.
On Friday, Flankers FC scored their first win of the season, upsetting Green Pond SC 3-0, ending their three-game winning run to start the season while Montego Bay Boys Club won their second-straight game, edging Cambridge FC 1-0.
Today, Reggae Youths could take over the lead in zone by avoiding a loss but will be seeking full points while extending Granville’s poor start.
Denardo Kerr has scored two goals for Reggae Youths so far and could lead the attack today as they set up a run for the semi-finals for a fourth-straight season.
Granville have only scored twice but will hope their third game will be better than the previous two and spring a surprise.
Also today, Heights FC and Norwood Strikers, both seeking their first win, will meet at Albion in a Zone B game.
Heights FC are on one point, after drawing their opening game, but have lost back to back games since while Norwood lost all three games played.
On Friday, after drawing their first three games and scoring just two goals, Flankers surprised the high-flying Green Pond SC, beating them 3-0 at Green Pond and extending their unbeaten run against them to three games.
Tevon Fuller scored the opening goal in the 27th minute and Jevon Walker doubled the lead in the 35th minute before Romaine Roper, who came on at the start of the second half, scored in the 85th minute.
It was the first goals of the season for each of Flankers’ scorers.
At the UDC Field, Rainnar Barnes scored the game’s only goal in the 25th minute to give Montego Bay Boys’ Club back to back 1-0 victories after they had edged Norwood by the same margin on Sunday.
It was the first loss of the season for former champions Cambridge FC, and it extended their winless run to two games after they had won their opening two.
