Competitive-looking George HoSang Trophy feature
George HoSang, one of the greatest jockeys to ride at Caymanas Park, will be honoured tomorrow with a race named after him. The $1.25-million Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over 6 furlongs (1,200m) has attracted a field of 10 runners, each vying for the top prize.
Below is the analysis of each runner and their chances of winning.
1. MUDSHAFT (USA): (6 b m by Mineshaft – Taterbug) – This mare should be competitive in this event, given her previous performances.
2. BENSON: (5 b h by Here Comes Ben – First Kiss) – Unlikely to make an impact, Benson will need to improve significantly to be considered a contender.
3. INSPIRE FORCE (USA): (5 ch h by Union Jackson – Exotic Design) – Finished in sixth position over the straight on January 4. Inspire Force should welcome the additional distance and is ready to make a capital effort.
4. DIVINE FORCE (USA): (5 b h by Alternation – Dance America) – Although winless in his last four starts, Divine Force is capable of making a bold bid based on his back class.
5. FREEDOM STREET: (6 b g by Uncaptured – Nofashionsense) – The horse to beat following a solid second-place finish behind Digital One on December 26. Freedom Street has been a consistent runner of late with some good efforts. However, his reliability is a concern.
6. JUSTIN BIDEN: (6 ch g by Lion Tamer – Wagon Wheel) – Will likely struggle to keep up with the pace.
7. NOBLE ATTITUDE (USA): (5 ch m by Noble Bird – Shear Attitude) – Not a serious contender,
Noble Attitude can be safely bypassed.
8. BIG ARGUMENT: (7 ch m by Nasheet – Idon’tknow) – Unlikely to factor in the outcome,
Big Argument has not shown enough to be considered a threat.
9. MADELYN’S SUNSHINE (USA): (6 dk b/br m by Joe’s Son Joey – Madelyn’s Finest) – Runs better on the bend and could be a force to be reckoned with, given her fine pace. However, she has been running below expectations of late.
10. THALITA: (5 ch m by Soul Warrior – Luminous Trieste) – Returns fitter after a three-month break and could lead home rivals. Thalita finished fifth behind Digital One and Freedom Street on December 26, 2024 over 6 ½ furlongs.
