Fred The Master announces his arrival
Fred The Master made a clear statement on Saturday, January 11, 2025, announcing his arrival on the local racing scene with a dominant victory in the Rimsky Trophy.
The three-year-old American-bred bay colt Fred The Master, trained by Jason DaCosta, left a lasting impression with his impressive performance, signalling his possible potential to be a major force in the 2025 racing season.
The excitement was palpable as Fred The Master took to the track for the 6-furlong (1,200m) Restricted Allowance II contest for three-year-olds and upward, which marked the first leg of the Betting, Gaming, and Lotteries (BGLC)/Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA) Three-Year-Old Millionaire Series.
Following some impressive morning gallops, expectations were high, and the colt didn’t disappoint, as with a significant change of pace, Fed The Master left his rivals in the dust, crossing the finish line, 5 ¼ lengths ahead of the field. His final time was 1:12.3 (23.3 x 48.0 x 1:00.0).
DaCosta was beaming with pride as he praised his talented charge.
“He was always a talented colt from day one. He has done everything right, and we’re keeping our fingers crossed that he continues to improve and stays healthy. He should be a nice horse for the rest of the year,” DaCosta told the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide.
DaCosta was pleased with Fred The Master’s debut performance, particularly his time. “It was a good time, and I’m happy with it,” he said.
While the trainer is eager to see how his colt progresses, he’s in no rush to push him too hard.
“We’ll take our time and pick a good spot for him. We’ll see where he goes from there,” he said.
With Robert Halledeen in the saddle, Fred The Master broke off in second place at the start, trailing
Mighty Gully (Abigail Able) early on.
However, as the field navigated the half-mile turn, Fred The Master maintained his position before seizing the lead as the distance approached. From there, he never looked back, cruising to an easy victory. Stablemate
Girvano (Tevin Foster) finished second, while Fearless Mission (Raddesh Roman) took third.
