Deportee hails women
Overseas-based dancehall artiste David Curran, more popularly called Deportee, is quickly making a name for himself with the recent release of the motivational track Bad Mamma Jamma.
The song, which is an ode women, celebrates their strength, resilience, and beauty.
Produced by Ricky Ten, it was released on January 3.
“The aim of this song is to ‘big up’ women all over the world. Women are the mother of all nations so they deserve our respect,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
The artiste was drawn to music from a young age. He was however given an opportunity to pursue his passion through a religious leader.
“My talent was discovered in the dancehall/reggae community in Detroit, Michigan, in 2019. Reverend Cashma Bryan was producing a reality show that consisted of a talent competition of reggae artistes. The show was not produced to completion, but I was introduced to the community, including Don Vince, an artiste from Ocho Rios, St Ann, who resides in Detroit and brought me onto a stage show in Jamaica in 2019, and the rest is history,” Deportee said.
His love for the genre was inspired by the musical maestro Sizzla Kalonji, the self-proclaimed fireman of the dancehall/reggae genres.
“Sizzla is the most consistent artiste I know and he’s in great shape to perform with a huge catalogue of much going on decades now,” Deportee said.
