Practical pistol shooting team shines at Florida State Champs
THE Jamaican practical pistol shooting team delivered an impressive performance at the Florida State Championship at the weekend.
Competing against over 200 international shooters, the Jamaicans showcased their talent and earned top placements across several divisions.
Darin Richards demonstrated his skill in the Limited Division, securing third place overall and cementing his status as one of the top competitors in the event.
In the Production Division, Rohan Wallace captured a second-place finish, while Florence Golding, the sole female representative from Jamaica, earned 11th place overall, showcasing her prowess in the same division.
The Open Division saw Dudley Brown finishing in 56th place against a field of highly skilled marksmen. The Carry Optics Division featured the largest contingent of Jamaican competitors.
Christopher Nunez claimed second place in the Senior Category while D John Nelson secured third place in the D Class. Arjun McPherson, Ronald Richards, Paul Shoucair, and Pierre Chin placed 62nd, 64th, 78th, and 96th, respectively, in the overall standings.
The Florida State Championship is renowned for its challenging courses and high level of competition. This year’s event was no exception, with participants pushing the boundaries of accuracy and speed.
Jamaica Rifle Association President Rohan Wilson said he is proud of the athletes’ achievements.
“Our shooters continue to excel on the international stage, representing Jamaica with skill, discipline, and sportsmanship,” he said. “These results are a testament to their hard work and dedication, as well as the growing strength of practical shooting in Jamaica.”
The association says the team remains committed to raising the nation’s profile in the sport and says it is looking ahead to future international competitions, including World Shoot 2025 in South Africa.
Over 50 competitors and range officials are to depart the island later this week for USA Extreme Open 2025, being held in Florida from January 28 to February 1.
