Propellant powers to first local win
American-bred bay horse Propellant (Into Mischief – Quality Way) dominated the second event with a four-length victory on Saturday’s (January 18, 2025) nine-race card.
Trained by Gary Subratie and ridden by Shane Ellis, Propellant secured his first win on local soil in the $720,000 Restricted Allowance contest for native-bred five-year-olds and upward (non-winners of two) and imported five-year-olds and upward (maidens) over 7 furlongs (1,400m).
Breaking well from the gate, Propellant settled into second position behind Joblane (Demar Williams) down the backstretch.
As they approached the five-furlong (1,000m) marker, Propellant joined Joblane before taking the lead approaching the half-mile marker.
Entering the drive, Propellant increased his tempo, effortlessly pulling away from the field. With Ellis guiding him home using only hands and knees, Propellant crossed the wire in 1:29.4 (24.3 x 49.0 x 1:16.0), leaving
Money Box (Aaron Chatrie) and Jet Ski Girl (Jordan Barrett) to finish second and third, respectively.
