Portmore United look to move into fourth in JPL
Former champions Portmore United could move up to fourth place in the Jamaica Premier League points table if they can beat Chapelton Maroons in a second-round game at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex today, set to start at 3:00 pm.
Portmore United are coming off back-to-back wins to be on 30 points and could leapfrog defending champions Cavalier FC, at least for 24 hours as there are four more games set to be played tomorrow.
Waterhouse, who are also on 30 points and in sixth position, will visit last-placed Harbour View, while Dunbeholden FC and Vere United will meet at the Dunbeholden Sports Complex.
After a long run without winning a game, Portmore United have won their last two games by an impressive 6-0 aggregate and faces a Chapelton Maroons team that has failed to win any of their last four games.
Despite being in eighth place, Chapelton Maroons are on 17 points, nine points behind seventh-place Tivoli Gardens and closer to the relegation zone, which is occupied by Humble Lion (14 points) and Harbour View (13 points).
Waterhouse FC are also hoping for consecutive wins as after beating Vere United 3-0 on Sunday, will take on Harbour View, who have taken just three points from their last 10 games.
Waterhouse FC had beaten Harbour View 1-0 in the first round but the odds would be for them to score a wider margin of win against a team that have conceded 31 goals so far.
One point separate 11th-placed Vere United and 12th-placed Dunbeholden FC, both just above the drop zone and today’s game would present them with a good opportunity to create some space between the drop zone.
Vere United have scored one goal in their last five games, a 1-0 win over Humble Lion and will hope for a second win over Dunbeholden this season after they had scored a 3-0 win in the first round.
