C3 Metals secures C$4.5-m to drive copper-gold exploration in Ja, Peru
WITH fresh capital in hand, Toronto-based C3 Metals Inc is ramping up exploration efforts across its copper-gold assets in Jamaica, reinforcing the country’s growing significance in the global hunt for critical minerals. The company recently closed a C$4.5-million private placement, issuing 14.99 million common shares at C$0.30 each, to fund ongoing exploration activities in Jamaica and Peru, as well as for corporate and working capital purposes.
Investor Robert L Gipson, a prominent financier, increased his stake in C3 Metals through the placement, now holding 16.91 per cent of the company’s outstanding shares.
While Jamaica has historically been known for bauxite mining, C3 Metals is leading efforts to tap into the island’s largely unexplored copper and gold potential. The company controls a vast 17,855-hectare exploration portfolio in Jamaica, along with an additional 9,870 hectares through a joint venture with Geophysx Jamaica Ltd.
Extensive fieldwork has already identified 16 porphyry copper systems, 40 epithermal gold prospects, and multiple volcanic, redbed, copper targets across a 30-kilometre mineralised corridor.
The Bellas Gate Project in St Catherine remains the company’s most advanced target, where drilling has confirmed a large-scale copper-gold system. In recent exploration work, C3 Metals intercepted 280.7 metres at 0.37 per cent copper and 0.21 grams per tonne (g/t) gold, or 0.52 per cent copper equivalent. A higher-grade section within that drill hole returned 61.7 metres at 0.50 per cent copper and 0.39 g/t gold, or 0.77 per cent copper equivalent. These results indicate the potential for significant copper-gold mineralisation, with the presence of bornite mineralisation and potassic alteration — markers of large, high-grade porphyry systems.
As the world transitions to clean energy, demand for copper — critical for electric vehicles, power grids, and renewable infrastructure — is surging. While South America dominates global copper production, the Caribbean is emerging as a promising new frontier.
Jamaica’s proximity to US markets, stable political climate, and improving mining regulations make it an attractive destination for mining investment.
With this latest round of funding, C3 Metals plans to accelerate drilling and geophysical surveys at Bellas Gate and other high-priority targets in early 2025. The company will expand drilling programmes to confirm deeper mineralisation while conducting additional geophysical surveys to refine exploration models. In parallel, it will advance permitting and feasibility studies to assess the long-term potential of its Jamaican assets.
While Jamaica remains a major focus, C3 Metals is also allocating part of the newly raised funds toward its Jasperoide project in Peru. The 26,800-hectare property, located near major copper producers like Hudbay Minerals and MMG, has already yielded promising drill results.
