‘Travel Fox’ track gets Kartel boost
Producer Shawn ‘Pennycooke’ Richards says the Travel Fox track by Vybz Kartel, released in July 2023, has seen a new wave of success.
The song, which highlights the Italian brand that dominated Jamaican pop culture and hip hop culture in the late 80s to 90s, has catchy lyrics which the producer is sure have attributed to its resonance.
“The song has been getting a strong since lately. The fact that Kartel is out, the song is now getting the Kartel effects. It was just posted on Crush Road’s YouTube page recently and it’s almost 100,000 views. The song is in rotation on many radio stations (including) Irie FM and FAME 95 FM,” Richards said.
Richards, who hails from Waterhouse in Kingston, has been a professional producer for over 10 years on his Red Bridge Records JA label.
He said that working with the famed deejay came through an organic connection.
“We met through a mutual friend, and the fact that we both attended Calabar High School; it’s the Calabar connection. The song took a few months to be completed—based on his situation at the time,” Richards explained.
He has also worked with Yaksta, Bugle, Bushman, Bnick, Boy Camilo and more.
