Public Broadcasting Corporation of Jamaica (PBCJ) will kick of its new series PBCJ Watch Party on Saturday February 22 at the former JBC-TV building.

The project is intended to satisfy the yearning of Jamaicans to reminisce while watching vintage programmes such as Lime Tree Lane, Oliver at large, Pullet Hall, Titus in Town, Claffy, Trails, and
Tuesday Forum. It will also feature snippets of events such as the visit of Haile Selassie to Jamaica in 1966 and Bob Marley’s funeral in 1981.

The featured presentation for the first event will be Lime Tree Lane, one of the longest-running television dramas in the region, which spawned the careers of many actors.

Members of the cast, including Dorothy “Miss Zella” Cunningham, Silton “Mas Gussie” Townsend, and Christopher “Johnny” Daley are expected to be in attendance. They will be joined by some of the crew members who worked on the series.

In addition to the showing of vintage content from the PBCJ’s Audiovisual Library, each event will also feature contemporary short films, programmes, and featurettes produced by Jamaicans.

The inaugural staging of the event will also feature Shattered by Sabrina Thomas, Undertow by George Malcolm Walker, and She Saw by Seana’Kay Wright — the top three films in the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission’s (JCDC) 2024 Short Film Competition.

According to Keith Campbell, CEO, PBCJ, “As the People’s Station, we listen and respond to the needs of different segments of the population, and this event will underscore our mandate of being a catalyst for the preservation and promotion of Jamaican culture.”

After the showing, a discussion on the featured programmes will be hosted by iconic Jamaican broadcaster, actress and educator Fae Ellington or Owen “Blakka” Ellis.

The free event which will be held on the last Saturday in each month.
