Arnett Gardens rally twice to earn draw against Racing United in JPL
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Arnett Gardens had to come from behind twice to earn a 2-2 draw against Racing United in their Jamaica Premier League third-round game played at the Anthony Spaulding Complex on Monday evening.
Racing United, who extended their unbeaten run to 11 games, led twice but saw Arnett score equalisers in stoppage time in each half of the game as the St Catherine-based club remained in seventh place just outside the play-off spots on goal difference, both on 38 points.
In the first game of the doubleheader, Montego Bay United clipped Chapelton Maroons 1-0, sweeping all three meetings against the Clarendon team and cutting the deficit on second-placed Arnett Gardens to two points.
Tajay Grant gave Racing United the lead when he converted a penalty in the 16th minute after an Arnett Gardens defender handled the ball in his own area.
Arnett Gardens would have equalised from the spot later, but Marlon Martin’s penalty was saved by goalkeeper Omarion Brown, who blocked the first shot and then recovered in time to save a feeble attempt from the rebound.
Arnett Gardens would draw level three minutes into time added when Warner Brown extended his league-leading goals tally to 17, firing a pass from Fabian Reid past Brown.
Jevoun gave Racing United what appeared to be the winner with one of the goals of the season when his fierce volley from some 25 yards away dipped over the head of the Arnett Gardens goalkeeper in the 87th minute.
