The company’s solutions were on show at the recently-held GOJ Digital Government Technology Showcase 2025, where it offered free consultation sessions, security awareness training, incident preparedness and response, and dark web monitoring scans.

Digicel Business notes that digital transformation offers businesses and government agencies the ability to streamline processes, reach new markets, and enhance customer experiences. However, with these opportunities come significant risks that can jeopardise the security of businesses, individuals, and the economy at large, with cyber threats, ransomware, phishing, QRishing [a type of phishing attack that uses QR codes], and other malicious attacks becoming increasingly sophisticated.

Echoing this sentiment during a panel discussion, Marlon Cooper, CEO of Symptai Consulting Limited, emphasised the need for businesses and government agencies to adopt clear standards and guidelines to ensure adherence to data privacy regulations. He highlighted real-world cases of security breaches to underscore the critical importance of safeguarding sensitive data and the potential consequences of failing to do so.

“As we continue to advance digitally, it is essential to embed key practices around data privacy and protection at the core of our transformation efforts…You [businesses and government entities] must establish a minimum standard,” Cooper said.

“If you’re operating in industries like banking, government, or healthcare, the way forward is to implement clear standards—not just guidance, but laws, regulations, accountability requirements, and penalties for breaches. Without these measures, you risk a fragmented approach to cybersecurity, where some companies will be secure, while others are not. These standards must also extend to your partners, suppliers, and infrastructure providers who enable your cloud services and other technologies,” Cooper continued, adding “I firmly believe that we need to move beyond principles and guidance and move towards concrete standards and requirements. You cannot be granted a license to operate unless you meet these minimum standards.”

Cooper also pointed out that 63 per cent of companies only allocate budget for cybersecurity after experiencing a breach.
