Whether it’s by Dinah Washington, Skeeter Davis, Jimmy London, or Mr Vegas, Jamaicans love That’s All I Want From You, also known as A Little Love.

Kelly Shane is the latest to take a crack at the timeless ballad.

Her Nyahbinghi version, produced by Tad Dawkins Jr, was released on March 7 by Tad’s International Record.

A famous relative suggested Kelly Shane cover the song.

“It was my mother’s idea, and I don’t think I objected at all, which I do a lot. I heard it a lot growing up. The song is a Jamaican staple, especially living in the slower-paced countryside; corner bar music,” she told the Jamaica Observer referencing her mother Tanya Stephens, one of dancehall music’s most respected singer-songwriters.

When Kelly Shane and Dawkins Jr linked he decided to go for a different feel from London’s soulful take or the rub-a-dub direction of Mr Vegas. The Nyahbinghi rhythm suited her.

“Very much. It was even more comfortable than I was singing it with the original arrangement,” she said.

Kelly Shane was inspired by her mother to pursue a music career. She began recording four years ago and has released songs such as Ain’t That Loving You (with Busy Signal) and Temptation. But after four years as an artiste she admits she is still finding her feet.

“I’m still not sure about my sound, though. Best way to describe it is experimental, and I mean that quite literally. I still rely on trial and error for my sound every time I record,” she shared.
