Trainer Anthony “Baba” Nunes is optimistic about Perfect Affair’s future after her maiden win on Saturday, March 22, 2025.

Ridden by Reyan Lewis, Perfect Affair (Perfect Curlin – Nuclear Affair) dominated her rivals in a six-furlong (1,200m) maiden condition race for native-bred three-year-old fillies, winning by 2 ¾ lengths in a time of 1:15.3.

Nunes has high hopes for Perfect Affair, envisioning her as a potential Classic contender. He’s considering the Thornbird Stakes or The Portmore as prep races.

“The first thing, I have to see how she comes out of this race, and we may just choose to run her in the Thornbird Stakes, which is the old-time 1000 Guineas Trail. If not, and she requires more time, we’ll just wait on The Portmore, and so we have choices,” Nunes told the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide.

Nunes is confident about Perfect Affair’s abilities, citing her breeding, distance potential, and promising performances.

“We just want her to come back healthy. I think that she has that capability of being good for the fillies’ Classic. I really do, and it’s for her to prove me wrong or right,” Nunes said.

Perfect Affair played it cool early on, lurking off the pace as Starraura (Robert Halledeen) took the lead, closely pursued by
Cosalivin (Tevin Foster). But when it counted most, Perfect Affair made a surge in deep stretch, going by Cosalivin, who was second, and Starraura, who was third.

“It was a nice win… She is nicely bred, she’s out of a Classic mare; she really looked like she wants to go a distance of ground; so six furlongs was a nice point for her to break her maiden; we expect with normal improvement, she will be a very nice filly,” Nunes said.

Nunes also reflected on Perfect Affair’s progress, noting that her first race, where she finished third, was a learning experience.

“Her first race, where she ran third, she had to learn. That’s why we ran her, because she was doing everything in the mornings, but wasn’t doing it fast. We put her in, got some experience, and really jumped from that last race to this race. We had expected a win from her, and we expect her to move forward again,” Nunes said.
