Arnett 2 – 2 Cavalier: Atkinson brace salvages point for champs

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Dwayne Atkinson scored a brace for defending champions Cavalier FC as they came from behind twice to earn a 2-2 draw against Arnett Gardens in their Jamaica Premier League third round game at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex on Monday evening.

The point saw Arnett Gardens retake sole possession of second place on 66 points while Cavalier remain fifth place on 49 points. It was the second straight 2-2 draw between Arnett and Cavalier, the former having won their first round meeting.

Red hot Fabian Reid fired the ‘Junglists’ into the lead in the ninth minute for his ninth goal of the season.

Cavalier were awarded a penalty after Arnett Gardens defender Shane Watson committed a foul inside the 18 yards box and Atkinson dispatched the spot kick to tie up the scores in the 17th minute.

Arnett were back in the lead in the 26th minute when Warner Brown headed in his league leading 19th goal of the season but Atkinson completed his brace in the 42nd minute, taking full advantage of a mistake in the Arnett Gardens defense, scoring his seventh goal of the season.

In the first game of the double header, Chapelton Maroons came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against Waterhouse FC, who were coming off back to back wins.

Waterhouse took the lead in the 53rd minute when Andre Fletcher scored but Dunstin Cohen earned a valuable point for Chapelton when he scored his maiden JPL goal in the 63rd minute.
