Mad about you

ALAISHA THOMAS

THE tendency towards unpredictable behaviour or erratic changes in mood when confronted with relationship upheavals isn’t confined to the female gender; in fact, the term ‘hell hath no fury’ may have been incorrectly attributed to women only, as men, too, have been known for their unpredictability when things go sour.

As we learned last week, moving on, especially when someone has wronged you, is easier said than done, and indeed, it takes a really strong person to end things amicably, and move on like once upon a time that person wasn’t your everything.

Like women, not many men have achieved that level of sainthood, so more than likely, when things end or are about to end, seeking revenge, seeking to hurt, absolutely craving schadenfreude, is something that will lead even the most sane man, too, to act out of character.

We heard from the women last week; and this week the men share the deranged, demented, crazy, insane things they have done to their exes under an attack of temporary insanity.

Delroy, 54:

I put a tracker on her car, followed it to where she was, and sat outside the restaurant, watching her eat with the man she told me I didn’t have to worry about. Then afterwards I went home like nothing happened. I couldn’t really confront her or anything, because she had just forgiven me for cheating on her for years, and I wasn’t working, so she was holding things down. I had to take my L and cry in my pillow while she slept.

Andrew, 33:

When she said it was done it’s like my head chip. I couldn’t imagine life without her, and one day I was hurting so bad, that I was on my knees in the road in front of our house crying to her for a second chance, and embarrassing myself. It wasn’t a total loss, because she did take me back, and we’re married now.

Aaron, 36:

She started going to the gym after we had our second child, and started to totally ignore me and my needs. So I started taking all of the sweet treats home that I know she loves, and couldn’t resist. Mango season was the best, as every evening I would take home East Indian mangoes, and she couldn’t resist. I was insecure enough to think that if she stayed bigger, she would eventually give up on the gym, and spend all her time with me.

Deshane, 27:

I’d go with her to her beauty appointments, to keep an eye on her. One time I sat through six hours of hair braiding, and the hairdresser got so annoyed, that she gave me hair to pass to her. That was the insecure me though. I’m a more mature partner now.

Jevaun, 24:

I found out that she used to talk to one of my good friends, and even though it was long before me, the fact that they both didn’t say anything to me, angered me. So when she went on the J1 programme, I started talking to one of her friends, and would post our dates on my
Snapchat. She was crashing out, but she wasn’t even in Jamaica to do anything about it. I kinda feel bad now, but two can play that game.
