Impressive displays highlight Jamaica Invitational Pistol Tournament
THE Jamaica Invitational Pistol Tournament was held this past weekend at the Jamaica Rifle Association’s ranges on Mountain View Avenue, attracting 55 competitors vying for top honours across four divisions.
The competition produced some remarkable results and highlighted Jamaica’s rising shooting talent.
Ryan Bramwell emerged as the standout performer, outclassing the entire field. His closest competitor scored just 87 per cent of Bramwell’s total score.
Showcasing his dominance, Bramwell, who was among the first of eight to qualify for the national team bound for the International Practical Shooting Confederation World Shoot Championships in South Africa later this year, led the open division with his open major Infinity gun. He beat Alrice Palmer into second place, while Petrano Belafonte finished third as he paid dearly for missing the target four times.
In the Production division, Yeonie Campbell was the sole female winner of the day. She skillfully held off challenges from Rohan Wallace and Anthony Johnson, who finished second and third, respectively. Campbell amassed 920 match points — 15 more than her closest rival.
Christopher Hart maintained his dominance in the Production Optics division, finishing approximately 10 per cent ahead of his closest rival, Allan McNab. Dufton Shepherd narrowly secured third place, edging out Corporal Shayon Francis by less than one point.
The Standard division was won by the consistent and disciplined Darin Richards, despite four misses. He finished a commanding 136 points ahead of Greg Henry, with Paul Dixon placing third.
Rohan Wilson, president of the Jamaica Rifle Association, expressed his satisfaction with the event. He noted that the level three competition demonstrated the strength of Jamaica’s upcoming world shoot team, with three of the four division winners being team members preparing for South Africa later this year.
However, Wilson also mentioned that the Jamaica Invitational Pistol Tournament will not be counted as part of the JRA’s national grand prix series.
The event brought out some of Jamaica’s most talented shooters and displayed their steady progress on the international stage.
