JCSA withdraws strike notice issued on Fire Brigade
THE Jamaica Civil Service Association (JCSA) has withdrawn a 72-hour strike notice issued on the Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB) on Wednesday.
In a media release on Thursday, the JCSA said it met with the management of the JFB to address the issue of outstanding salary payments for drivers and mechanics.
This meeting followed the issuance of a 72-hour strike notice.
According to the JCSA, following constructive dialogue, both parties reached an agreement that payments for extra hours worked will be instituted with effect from August 1, 2025, in accordance with the Extra Hours Worked Policy.
Calculations for these payments will be completed after the relevant data is submitted from the various JFB locations. All payments are scheduled to be made in June.
Additionally, the JFB confirmed that the request for the upgrade in salaries was formally submitted to the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service, in line with the Heads of Agreement submitted by the JCSA.
“The union now awaits the ministry’s response and the implementation of the salary upgrades by May 31, 2025,” the JCSA said.
“In light of these developments and the commitment demonstrated by the JFB, the 72-hour strike notice has been officially discontinued,” the JCSA added.
The association said it commends the professionalism of its members and acknowledges the willingness of the JFB to engage in good faith dialogue.
“The association remains committed to ensuring the fair treatment and welfare of its members across the public service,” declared the JCSA.
