Champion Bubbler dances away with Reggae Trophy
IN a thrilling upset, six-year-old American-bred bay mare Champion Bubbler defied expectations to win the $1.75-million Reggae Trophy feature at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
Trained by Spencer Chung and sent off at 10-1 odds, Champion Bubbler outperformed her more-fancied rivals, sweeping past the competition to claim victory in the Graded Stakes/Open Allowance contest.
Champion Bubbler crossed the finishing line three parts of a length ahead of Pack Plays (Richie Shakes) and Is That A Fact (Anthony Allen), securing her third-consecutive win at the five-furlong distance.
The impressive performance saw her complete the 1,000m straight course in 59.1 seconds. The win showcases Champion Bubbler’s talent and determination.
Apprentice jockey Tajay Suckoo positioned the mare behind the early pace, allowing Pack Plays, Mamma Mia (Jordan Barrett), and Bootylicious (Omar Walker) to set the tempo. But as Suckoo asked Champion Bubbler to run, coming across the dummy rails, the mare responded magnificently, blowing past her rivals to secure an impressive victory. Suckoo’s tactical ride and Champion Bubbler’s exceptional speed and stamina combined to leave all and sundry in her wake.
It was the second winner on the day for Suckoo, who earlier placed first aboard Prolific Prince in the sixth race.
It was one of three winners for trainer Adrian Prince. Prince’s other winners were Degaulle (Demer Williams), in the opening race, and Incredible Jo (Dick Cardenas) in the seventh race.
Williams won the fifth race aboard Burning Valor for trainer Patrick Taylor for his double.
Horse racing is to continue on Sunday.
