Cavalier, Arnett highlight start of JWPL second round
Cavalier and Arnett Gardens, second and third, respectively, in the Jamaica Women’s Premier League (JWPL), separated by three points, will meet at Alpha Boys’ Home today as the return round gets underway with the usual five
games.
Cavalier are in second place on 25 points, three more than Arnett Gardens as they drew 2-2 in the opening round of games played on March 1.
Leaders Frazsiers Whip are away to UWI Women’s FC, who they had beaten 6-0 in the first round while fourth place Los Perfectos, who are point behind Arnett, could be in the top three with a win over Federal, who they had beaten 6-1 in the first round.
The game at Alpha Boys’ Home is expected to be close with second place at stake, Arnett has the slightly better goal-difference and would assume second place with a win.
Both teams will come into the game on a roll with their only blemish being 2-1 losses to Frazsiers Whip.
Arnett will be looking to Shakira Douglas, the competition’s top scorer with 20 so far, while Cavalier will hope Shanel Spence, who has scored 18 goals so far, will come back from their break, rested and hungry for more goals.
Los Perfectos could benefit from the clash between the teams just ahead of them as a win over last placed Federal today would see them into the top three.
Federal’s only points came in the boardroom when they were awarded points from their game against Springers that ended in a draw but the Montego Bay team used an ineligible player.
Frazsiers Whip are expected to win and extend their perfect run to 11 games, when they take on UWI.
Real MoBay AFC came from two goals down to earn a 3-3 draw at home to Mile Gully and both teams will hope to start the second round with a win when they meet at Brooks Park.
Mile Gully are on 12 points, six more than Real MoBay AFC.
WiFi United and Proven Girls, who will met at York Sports Complex, had also drawn their first-round game, 2-2, but WiFi United will start favourites to win today.
