Commandant proves unstopabble in Seeking My Dream feature
FIVE-YEAR-OLD American-bred bay horse Commandant made a stunning comeback to the winners’ enclosure, securing an emphatic victory in the $1.4-million Seeking My Dream Trophy at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
The 8-5 favourite, trained by Rohan Crichton, dominated the Open Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward, crossing the finishing line at two and a half lengths. Commandant battled Desert of Malibu (Omar Walker) and Atomica (Dane Dawkins) for the first part of the race before he went about his business to secure the win. Atomica, ridden by Dane Dawkins, took second place while Tiz Tok, with Shane Ellis aboard, claimed third.
Raddesh Roman rode Commandant to a smooth win, finishing the seven and a half furlongs (1,500m) in 1:31.40 minutes (23.2 x 46.0 x 1:11.3 x 1:24.4). Commandant’s impressive performance marked a triumphant return after a disappointing end in his previous race during which he failed to finish the event.
It was the third winner on the nine-race card for Roman. The jockey had won the first two races of day aboard Bushfire for trainer Anthony Smith, and Tigray Express for trainer Peter-John Parsard.
Byron Davis topped the trainers with two winners. He saddled Last Hoorah (Evertte Clunis) in the fourth race, and Midnight Flight (Demar Williams) in the seventh race. Racing continues on Friday.
