Restoring the Church’s influence through biblical truth
Dear Editor,
The Church has long been a beacon of truth, shaping societies through its unwavering commitment to biblical principles. However, in recent years, as theological academia has expanded, the Church’s influence has seemingly diminished. Instead of standing firm on the word of God, many have embraced personal ideologies, intellectualism without spiritual conviction, and a diluted gospel that caters to cultural trends rather than divine truth.
The Bible warns against this departure: “For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them teachers who say what their itching ears want to hear.” (2 Timothy 4:3) The Church must return to preaching the word as it was intended — without compromise, without distortion, and without the influence of human philosophies that weaken its transformative power.
In the same breath, we must address the growing spirit of greed that has infiltrated many pulpits. Every Sunday congregations are encouraged to chase success, ‘sow a seed’ for wealth and prosperity, often at the expense of spiritual depth. While financial stability is important, souls are more important. Jesus Himself declared, “What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?” (Mark 8:36) The Church must shift its focus back to salvation, discipleship, and the eternal destiny of believers rather than material gain.
True revival does not come through empty emotionalism or superficial prosperity teachings, it comes through the illumination of the Holy Spirit and the faithful preaching of God’s word. The Church must reject secularised theology and return to the foundation of scripture, allowing the Spirit to guide, convict, and transform lives.
As we move forward, let us recommit to the gospel in its purest form. Let us preach Christ crucified, teach sound doctrine, and prioritise the salvation of souls over worldly success. Only then will the Church reclaim its rightful influence and fulfil its divine mandate.
