Julian Robinson appointed head coach of Calabar athletics
Veteran throws coach Julian Robinson has replaced Corey Bennett as head of Calabar High School’s athletics programme.
The school had been assessing its options for a number of weeks since deciding not to extend Bennett’s contract which ends at the end of the season. Among the candidates considered was Calabar past student and former assistant coach, Omar Hawes.
Robinson is a renowned throwing coach with an impressive record of developing a plethora of outstanding throwers from Calabar to the Jamaican team including Federic Dacres who he guided to become Jamaica’s first field event gold medallist at the junior and senior levels.
Robinson, who represented Calabar at the throws in the 1980s, was named the 2018 North America Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) Coach of the Year.
He will be tasked with ending Calabar’s high school athletics championships title drought which extended to seven years this season when the institution finished second behind arch rivals Kingston College.
