Frazsiers Whip go for lucky 13th win in JWPL
IT could be lucky 13 for defending champions and leaders Frazsiers Whip FC when they travel to take on third-place Los Perfectos FC in the second game of a double-header at Brooks Park in Mandeville today.
Frazsiers Whip have won all 12 games they have played so far and are coming off a 9-0 thrashing of Proven Girls. They will start favourites to get full points from Los Perfectos who they beat 7-1 in the first round.
Los Perfectos FC will, however, go into the game with the momentum of winning their last six games by a 26-1 aggregate, including two 9-0 wins, to claw their way up the points table and into third place.
Frazsiers Whip’s Davia Richards returned to her high-scoring ways last week when she scored five times against the hapless Proven Girls, and she could lead the attack today against one of the better defences in the competition.
Aside from leaking seven goals against Frazsiers Whip in the first round, Los Perfectos FC have only allowed a total of five other goals in their other 11 games played.
Today the Manchester-based team will hope Veniecia Reid and Andrene Smith — who have combined to score 22 of their 41 goals — will be able to help them get a result against the runaway leaders.
Cavalier, who are in second place, will be away to UWI Women who are coming off back-to-back losses, and they will be hoping to cauterise the bleeding.
UWI will, however, need to find a way to stop Cavalier’s Shanel Spence who has scored 20 goals so far, while Deshanna Cole and Shadie Shirley have combined for another 10.
Arnett Gardens will return to action this week and will take on Mile Gully in the first game at Brooks Park, hoping to repeat their first round 4-1 win.
Arnett Gardens are in fourth place and will not be able to overtake Los Perfectos this round, but they could cut the deficit to one point if they win and Los Perfectos lose.
Real MoBay will be eyeing back-to-back wins for the first time this season when they play away at York Sports Complex to Proven Girls who they previously drew with 3-3.
Both teams are on nine points but Real MoBay have played one game less.
Real MoBay edged a UWI team that showed up with just 13 players last week and will need to be at their best against Proven Girls who were beaten 9-0 last weekend and have conceded 13 goals in their last two outings.
In the other game scheduled, WiFi United will hope to return to winning ways after only getting one point from their last two outings, as they face last-placed Springers United.
