Frazsiers Whip qualify for JWPL semis in style
Defending champions Frazsiers Whip qualified for the semi-finals of the Jamaica Women’s Premier League in style with a 14-0 drubbing of Springers United at Courtney Walsh Oval (CWO) on Saturday.
Led by four goals from the league’s leading scorer Davia Richards, Frazsiers Whip won their 14th-straight game and improved to 42 points, which guarantees the St Catherine-based club at least fourth place at the end of the regular season with six games still to be played.
Also on Saturday, Cavalier, Los Perfectos, and Arnett Gardens, teams that occupy second through fourth places respectively in the table, also scored wins that kept them in the race for the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, Springers United and Federal United, both of whom lost their 11th game of the campaign, were eliminated from semi-final contention after losses.
At CWO, Richards scored four goals to take her tally to 28 for the season while Shaniel Buckley and Sahai Panton both scored braces in the rout of the St James team that has now conceded 82 goals in 13 games.
Natoya Atkinson, Ackelia Johnson, Destiny Powell, Tiny Seaton, Tajay Stephenson and Devonae Lewis also scored for Frazsiers Whip.
Shanel Spence was also in a goal-scoring mood as she scored five times for Cavalier in their 11-1 win over Proven Girls at Alpha Boys’ Home.
Spence, who improved to 25 goals, three behind Richards, scored in the 13th, 16th, 45th, 47th and 79th minutes while Kersha Thomas also got a brace, scoring in the 48th and 87th minutes. There were also goals for Tamara O’Sullivan, Shadie Shirley, Oneillia Perkins and Stephanie Morgan as Jasmine Brown scored Proven Girls’ consolation goal.
At Jarrett Park, Venecia Reid scored a hat trick as Los Perfectos got the better of Real MoBay to stay in third place on 30 points, one point ahead of Arnett.
Reid gave the visitors a 2-0 lead at half time when she scored in the 16th and 33rd minutes.
MoBay cut the deficit in half when Dale-Ann Daley pulled a goal back in the 53rd minute but Sashana Campbell restored Los Perfectos’ two-goal lead in the 61st minute before Reid completed her hattrick in the 79th minute.
Arnett handed a slumping UWI Women’s FC a fourth straight loss as they won 3-1 thanks to a double from Shikira Douglas and a goal from Briana Crosby with Daneisha Hall netting for the losers.
WiFi United scored a 2-1 win over Federal United as they scored back to back wins for only the second time this season.
Evernique McCleary gave WiFi the lead in the fifth minute of play but Adriana Hall levelled for Federal in the 34th minute before Tashel Davis scored the winning goal in the 42nd minute.
