Meadowrest breaks ground for state-of-the-art crematorium
MEADOWREST Memorial Gardens has announced that it will be opening a state-of-the-art crematorium facility. The new crematorium will feature industry-leading technology designed with safety, security, and environmental protection as core principles, the operators said.
“This advanced facility represents Meadowrest’s continued commitment to providing dignified end-of-life services while prioritising community health and environmental responsibility,” a release from Meadowrest indicated. “Our facility will be compliant with local regulatory standards, ensuring we operate with minimal environmental impact while maintaining the highest level of respect for loved ones.”
With a high-capacity crematory retort, the facility can process over 2,000 cremations annually, meeting growing community needs.
“Our vision for the crematorium represents our unwavering dedication to serving families during their most difficult moments with both compassion and excellence,” said Ingrid Chambers, chief executive officer of the United Church Mission Enterprise, which operates the facility.
“This facility embodies our promise to all stakeholders — the families we serve, our dedicated team members, and the broader community — that we will continue to innovate and improve while remaining true to our core values of respect, and environmental stewardship.”
The space will include a private viewing room to provide comfort for families choosing to witness the cremation process. As part of Meadowrest’s memorial offerings, the new facility will enhance accessibility and choice while significantly improving service turnaround times.
Key features of the new crematorium include body chillers and identification tagging systems; combustible caskets and private viewing room; state-of-the-art emission control systems that protect air quality; and private spaces for family ceremonies and viewings.
Scheduled to open later this year, the crematorium will operate in full compliance with all local regulations, the release noted.
Adding to these improvements, Meadowrest has also partnered with the Government of Jamaica to fund infrastructure upgrades in the surrounding area that will provide enhanced access to the gardens.
Road improvement works are currently underway, with completion expected to significantly improve the travel experience for visitors and members of the community.
“The comprehensive roadway upgrades will create smoother driving conditions and easier navigation to the property, ensuring families and guests can reach the gardens with greater comfort and convenience. These infrastructure enhancements align with our ongoing commitment to providing accessible services,” the directors said.
Meadowrest Memorial Gardens, operated by the United Church in Jamaica & the Cayman Islands, is located in Whittaker Mountain, St Catherine.
