Small urban centre to be built in Hopewell, says Holness
HOPEWELL, Hanover — Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) leader Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness has revealed that his Administration has plans to construct a small urban centre in the coastal town of Hopewell in Hanover.
“Right around Hopewell you have a pretty decent population. We are going to fix it up, because we want our people to have proper urban spaces where they can go shopping and conduct their business in ease and comfort,” Holness said at a JLP Hanover Eastern workers’ meeting and appreciation ceremony at Bethel Primary and Junior High School on Sunday.
Holness did not say when the centre will be constructed and at what cost.
He also told the meeting that in addition to the construction of a bypass road for Hopewell, the road in the town will be upgraded, widened, and realigned.
He said the alignment for the bypass for Hopewell has been done and the Government is satisfied that it is a good one.
The Holness Administration had previously announced that in addition to the Hopewell bypass it is planning to construct a bypass for the parish capital of Lucea. The two bypass roads are expected to improve traffic flow through both towns.
