Triple jumper secures back-to-back Diamond League wins
JORDAN Scott has set his sights on bettering his personal best after he completed back-to-back Diamond League wins in the men’s triple jump having won with 1.27m (0.5m/s) at the Meeting de Paris, a Diamond League meet, at Stade Charlety in the French capital on Friday.
Scott, who has a personal best 17.34m set just over a week ago when he won at the Bislet Games in Oslo, Norway, equalled his second-longest jump which he had achieved in late April at a Diamond League meeting in Xiamen, China.
Meanwhile, national record holder Ackera Nugent ran a season’s best 12.30 seconds (0.7m/s) for third in the 100m hurdles, with both athletes expected to have wrapped up their preparation for next weekend’s JAAA National Senior Championships at the national stadium.
On Friday Scott, who came from behind to win in Paris, said he was happy for the result, despite not having his personal coach with him. “This is a very tactical event so it is all about jumping smart and saving yourself for when it matters.”
He said, “I am very pleased with the result but I am not sure how much longer my personal best will stand. This is a long season and I am not too worried about it; it will happen at some point and I am just grateful for jumping 17.27 today and happy with the win.”
Scott led early with 17.11m (0.3m/s) but slipped down to third place before improving his mark in the sixth and final round, where only the top three jumpers were given the extra jump.
Burkino Faso’s Hugues Fabrice Zango was second with a season’s best 17.21m (1.8m/s), with France’s Thomas Gogois taking third in his season’s best 17.11m (1.3m/s).
The top three finishers in the 100m hurdles final went under the 33-year-old record 12.32 seconds set in 1992 by Russia’s Lyudmila Narozhileno, as Nugent bettered her previous season’s best 12.34 seconds set at the Grand Slam meet in Miramar, Florida.
American Grace Stark set a personal best and meeting record 12.21 seconds to win the event, with world record holder Tobi Amusan of Nigeria second with a season’s best 12.24 seconds.
Jamaica’s Jordan Scott competes in the men’s triple jump of the Wanda Diamond League athletics meeting at the Charlety Stadium in Paris on June 20, 2025.
