Man who shared private video of ex-girlfriend remanded in custody
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A man accused of sending a private video of his ex-girlfriend to her aunt was remanded in custody when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday.
Charged with malicious communication, Sheldon Hinds was brought from a holding cell to face the court.
Despite the complainant being absent, the prosecutor proceeded with the allegations, stating that Hinds intercepted his ex-girlfriend on her way to work, and during a struggle over her bag, her phone fell out. He allegedly retrieved the phone, accessed it and sent a private video of the woman and her current partner to her aunt.
Senior Parish Judge Sanchia Burrell questioned how Hinds was able to access the phone and how he even knew the video was on the device. She also raised concerns about how he knew the complainant’s password.
According to the prosecutor, during a police interview, Hinds admitted that he “sent it to one person”.
The matter was temporarily stood down, but when Hinds reappeared later in court, Judge Burrell ordered that he remain in custody.
The matter was then referred for case management scheduled for July 31.
