TAJ to stop accepting some cheques
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) will no longer accept cheques as a method of payment for taxes and other public monies except for a valid cheque issued by another ministry, department or public body or valid manager’s cheque issued by a local licensed commercial bank regulated by the Bank of Jamaica.
This policy will take effect on September 1, 2025.
TAJ, in its announcement on Thursday, said this policy shift is part of its efforts to modernise its operations, strengthen risk management and enhance the efficiency, security and reliability of its payment processes.
With this new policy, customers are being encouraged to use other available payment options, such as logging on to the tax portal at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm and using a valid debit or credit card, using the direct funds transfer (DFT), NCB online banking or Scotia online.
