Love triangle lands woman in court over leak of explicit video
MONTEGO BAY, St James — A love triangle, a leaked nude video, and a viral social media post have thrust a woman into the courtroom spotlight.
Following a series of explosive online posts that allegedly exposed intimate content of another woman, Dexton Vernon appeared before the St James Parish Court on Wednesday to answer to a charge of malicious communication.
Presiding over the matter was judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton, with Vernon represented by attorney-at-law Charles Sinclair.
At the heart of the case is a bitter dispute between Vernon and the complainant, both of whom were romantically linked to the same man. Vernon, who shares a child with the man, was reportedly aware that he is also involved with the complainant. The situation escalated after the complainant sent nude videos to the boyfriend, one of which surfaced on his WhatsApp “view-once” status on May 24.
The complainant, alarmed by the public exposure, called her boyfriend’s phone. Vernon answered and an argument followed.
Two days later, on May 26, that same explicit video appeared on TikTok. By May 27, more nude photos and videos were shared online — this time accompanied by the complainant’s phone number, with an open invitation for strangers to contact her. The digital ambush prompted the complainant to report the incident to the police.
When confronted by police and cautioned, Vernon allegedly offered no apology, stating, “So wah wrong with that, officer? Mi neva send har to send her nasty [private parts] to mi babyfather and a push badness!”
Police later contacted the man at the centre of the dispute. He denied seeing the video on his WhatsApp; however, forensic checks revealed that his WhatsApp account was linked to another device.
During Wednesday’s court session, the clerk disclosed that the case file remains incomplete. Critical statements are still outstanding, and the Communication Forensics and Cybercrime Division (CFCD) certificate — a key piece of digital evidence — is yet to be submitted.
Judge Fairclough-Hylton scheduled the matter for case management on September 2, and extended Vernon’s bail.
