National Stadium redevelopment to be completed in 2029
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The National Stadium’s redevelopment work is set to be completed in 2029.
The announcement was made on Wednesday at the Sports ministry offices in Kingston.
Sports Minister Olivia Grange says ground will be broken at the end of August with a three-year construction period set to begin in early 2026.
However, Grange says the stadium will remain open during the upgrades but will have decreased capacity.
UK firm Ryder Architecture revealed proposed designs of the stadium, which is set to increase capacity to nearly 38,000. The stadium will also be 90 per cent covered and a full upgrade of seating in the bleachers.
The other major upgrades include establishing modern facilities for anti-doping, new facilities for media, sports museum, VIP lounges and new concession facilities.
