Jordan Scott wins seventh straight triple jump competition
KINGSTON, Jamaica — National champion Jordan Scott won his seventh straight event after coming from behind in the final round to win the men’s triple jump at the Meeting de Madrid at Estadio Vallehermoso, Madrid, a World Athletics Continental Tour-Silver meet on Saturday.
In a close competition that saw the top three separated by six centimetres, Scott, who fouled on his first two attempts, produced a 16.95m (0.5m/s) effort in the final round as he came from fourth place to win the event.
Cuban Cristian Napoles, who led from the second round, jumped a season’s best 16.90m (2.0m/s) for second place, while Hugues Fabrice Zango of Burkino Faso was third with 16.89m (1.0m/s).
Meanwhile, former Olympic Games gold medallist Hansle Parchment ran 13.27 seconds (-1.9m/s) for second in the 110m hurdles, just outside his season’s best of 13.26 seconds set on Tuesday in Luzern, Switzerland, with his compatriot Tyler Mason finishing fifth with 13.52 seconds.
Spain’s Enrique Llopis just edged Parchment for the win with 13.26 seconds, while France’s Wilhem Belocian was third with 13.30 seconds.
Lafranz Campbell was sixth in the B final with 13.83 seconds (-1.5m/s).
Danniel Thomas-Dodd was third in the women’s shot put, throwing 18.94m, as American Chase Jackson won with 20.27m, with Sweden’s Fanny Roos second with 19.60m.
Adelle Tracey was seventh in the women’s 800m with a season’s best.
