Euro 2025 showdown

England Lionesses to defend title against first-time finalists Spain

Currentwomen’s European champions England will face off against the current World Champions Spain in an eagerly anticipated Euro 2025 final this Sunday in Switzerland.

Event # 1 – Euro 2025 final – England W vs Spain W – 11:00AM

It’s a rematch of the ages as England Women and Spain Women renews rivalry in the final of the Euro 2025 tournament this Sunday in Switzerland, this after Spain defeated England two years ago in the final of the Women’s World Cup in Australia. Indeed, England’s road to the Euro 2025 have been far from smooth as the Lionesses used up the majority of their nine lives across their last two games against Sweden and Italy. Firstly, England came from two goals down late in their quarterfinals game against Sweden to force extra-time, where they prevailed on penalties, then in their semi-final match against Italy, the England Lionesses needed a 96th-minute equaliser to take the game to extra-time, where they scored in the 119th minute to secure back-to-back final appearances. England’s women will have the chance to defend the title they won on home soil three years ago. If they can do so, the Lionesses will create history by becoming the first non-German team to repeat as Euro winners since the tournament’s inception four decades ago.

Meanwhile, for Spain’s Women, a win would mean a maiden Euro title for them and make them only the third nation to hold both the World Cup and European titles simultaneously. Norway became the first to attain this honour in 1995, the Germany Women’s repeated and were holders of the trophy between 2003 until 2011. With that said, Spain entered this tournament as arguably the best team in the World and reigning World Champions, having defeated upcoming opponents England in Australia in 2023. Indeed, Spain were rampant throughout the group stages, with 14 goals scored in three matches. In contrast to England, Spain defeated host nation Switzerland with consummate ease in the quarter-finals. They then booked their spot in the final with a hard fought one nil win over Germany, in extra time. This was Spain’s first ever win over Germany in any form of Women’s football. Riding a wave of assurance heading into the final, Spain will be confident of completing the double over England, having done so in the 2023 World Cup final, and have won five-straight games, scoring 17 times and conceding just three.

Key Stats

• England W– England have kept just a single clean sheet in their last five European matches.

• Spain W– Spain have won all 5 games at the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025, scoring 17 goals in the process, and have won 10 consecutive matches in all competitions.

• Both sides – Spain Women have defeated England Womenin two of the last 3 head-to-head meetings – Nations league and World Cup finals.

The betting tip: Spain Women win.
