Fillies take centre stage in Jamaica Oaks Classic showdown

...11 talented competitors, including top contender Linguist, set to clash in the thrilling 10-furlong contest

Tomorrow, August 2, 2025, Caymanas Park will host the prestigious $3.75-million Jamaica Oaks Classic, a 10-furlong (2,000m) race exclusively for fillies. This highly anticipated event is the third Classic race of the season, featuring 11 talented fillies vying for the top spot.

The 1000 Guineas runner-up, Linguist, trained by Anthony “Baba’”Nunes, is the clear favourite to win. But with 10 other fillies in the competition, the outcome is far from certain.

The Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide provides expert insights on each of the 11 runners, listed in post-position order, setting the stage for an exciting and unpredictable race.

1. MIGHTY GULLY: (3 b f by Buzz Nightmare – Lady Exotic) – Ran well in the Jamaica 1000 Guineas, earning third place. Another run in the money is definitely possible, given her speed and agility. Her connections are hopeful she can build on this performance.

2. TOTAL VELOCITY: (3 dk b/br f by Patton Proud – Total Motion) – A maiden runner, unlikely to win this race.
Total Velocity may struggle to keep up with the more experienced fillies in the field.

3. ENTHUSIASM: (3 b f by Wow Wow – Noon It Is) – Finished 12th in the Jamaica 1000 Guineas but has shown improvement with two second-place finishes. A better performance is expected.

4. COSALIVIN: (3 ch f by Bold Conquest – Sweetyourock) – Unlikely to win the Jamaica Oaks.

5. DANKA: (3 ch f by Aveenu Malcainu – Baby P) – Finished seventh in the 1000 Guineas but has the class and talent to compete here. Improvement is expected from Danka.

6. PRETTY PERFECT: (3 b f by Sensational Slam – Black Bombshell) – Finished sixth in the Jamaica St Leger over the same distance as today’s. Back among fillies, she’s primed for a strong effort and could be a dark horse in the race.

7. LINGUIST: (3 b f by Aveenu Malcainu – Bilingual) – The top contender, finishing second in the 1000 Guineas and another strong run since. She’s progressed well and is a tough opponent to bet against. Linguist’s consistency and class make her a strong favourite.

8. WAYNE’SCHERRYLINKS: (3 b f by Hedge Fund – So Smooth) – No chance of winning. Wayne’s Cherrylinks doesn’t seem to have the pedigree or form to compete with the best fillies.

9. RILEY J: (3 b f by Soul Warrior – Hail De Cat) – No winning chance. Riley J’s performance in previous races hasn’t been impressive, and she’s unlikely to upset the favourites.

10. WOMAN IN LOVE: (3 ch f by Sensational Slam – Woman Is Boss) – An unknown factor, coming off two consecutive wins. She’s expected to perform well, but whether she has the class to win remains to be seen.
Woman In Love could be a surprise package.

11. ROARING KITTY: (3 b f by Casual Trick – Salty Talk) – Likely to be left behind.
