WATCH: Minister Dana Morris Dixon encourages youth to explore agriculture at Denbigh 2025
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Minister of Education, Skills, Youth & Information, Senator Dana Morris Dixon was among the many attendees at the 71st staging of the Denbigh Agricultural, Industrial and Food Show being held from August 1 until Sunday, August 3 at the Denbigh Showground in May Pen, Clarendon.
Speaking with Observer Online, Minister Dixon described this year’s staging as a standout event.
“It’s a really epic Denbigh this year,” she said.
She noted that this year’s show was especially impactful when compared to 2024, which had a limited staging following the passage of Hurricane Beryl in July.
“This one was good especially because last year after Beryl it was so scaled back and so this year you see Denbigh again in all its glory which is really good,” she noted.
Dixon highlighted the livestock section and the presence of cutting-edge technology as key features of the event. Among the innovations on display were aerial robots, lab robots, and aquatonic technologies.
She also praised the contributions from the Caribbean School of Agriculture (CASE), pointing out its display of locally developed products such as a breadfruit pancake mix and ackee butter.
Minister Dixon urged young Jamaicans to take interest in the evolving agricultural sector, especially given its growing potential.
“There is obviously a lot of potential in agriculture, agriculture is changing, the technology is really exciting,” she said. “If you’re interested in agriculture, which can be quite lucrative, then you need to come to Denbigh, see what’s happening, see what’s new, and just really take in all of this so that you can take part in the development of agriculture.”
