Junior Reggae Girl Andrene Smith signs for Serbian club
National Under-20 player Andrene Smith of Los Perfectos has signed for Serbian club ZFK Spartak Subotica.
Los Perfectos coach Ricardo Martin says Smith’s move to Serbia is a big statement for her career as well as Los Perfectos and Phoenix Academy.
“It shows the level of talent and professionalism the club is producing, players who can step onto the European stage and compete,” said Martin, adding “It’s proof that the programme’s development system works, opening doors for more players to follow in her footsteps.”
Smith scored two goals for Jamaica in the Concacaf Women’s Under-20 qualifiers earlier this year in Nicaragua.
ZFK Spartak Subotica was founded on May 20, 1970 at the Željezničar clothing factory, with the team comprised of factory workers.
A few years later, the club joined the Railway Workers’ Sports Association “Jovan Mikić Spartak” and changed its name to ŽFK “Spartak”, which it still bears today.
The club won the first unofficial championship of the SFR Yugoslavia for women in 1974/75.
