Woman accused of wounding neighbour to go on trial after rejecting mediation
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A woman who is accused of wounding her neighbour during a disagreement over their children was given a trial date when she appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday.
The accused, Stacia-Kay Thomas, is charged with unlawful wounding stemming from an altercation with her neighbour due to a disagreement between the children of both parties.
Addressing presiding judge Peter Wilson, Thomas alleged that the complainant’s son drew a knife at her daughter. She explained that upon arriving home, she confronted the complainant regarding the matter, which led to an argument. She admitted to throwing stones at the complainant.
The court heard that the attack resulted in an injury to the complainant’s leg, as well as property damage including a broken car windshield, which was valued at $30,000.
Noting that he was open to mediation, the complainant requested reimbursement for his injuries and the damage to his vehicle. However, mediation was rejected by Thomas who asked, “Is he going to pay for me and my daughter’s medical bill?”
Thomas was then offered bail in the sum of $100,000 and directed not to communicate or interfere with the complainant, his family or any material that he owned.
The matter is set to go on trial on November 5, 2025.
