Canada-based producer updates 2 Times rhythm
Due to the recent controversy surrounding the 2 Times rhythm project, which spawned the hit song 2 Times by Khago, Canada-based Jamaican-born producer Tasjay Smith joined forces with Ifield Joseph to create a new version of the beat, called 2 Time 2 rhythm.
Smith, who is originally from Manchester, decided to put a different spin on the beat, which features songs by Rad Dixon, Horace Martin, Tony Anthony and Esdras IS-RA-EL.
In an interview with Observer Online earlier this week, Smith disclosed why he decided to put his own spin on the beat.
“It was a nasty fight over a rhythm project that you can just knock over and save the stress. I wanted to show how we can solve problems,” said Smith, who released the project on his Tasjay Productions imprint.
“Before the emergence of the 2 Times rhythm, I’ve never witnessed so much drama and controversy surrounding a reggae rhythm. We’ve seen this kind of thing happen with dancehall rhythms over the years, but not reggae. So, Ifield and I decided to do a new version of the rhythm that transcends all the negativity,” said the producer.
Smith continued, “I feel proud about the songs that we’ve produced on this rhythm. Every song carries positive messages that will resonate with people from different walks of life.”
The four-song project was released on August 8.
“Over the years, the name Tasjay Productions has become synonymous with good quality reggae music, and this is another project that reggae music lovers all over the world will appreciate,” he said.
Smith also revealed that he’s working on several new projects, including an album for Rad Dixon.
“We’re currently working on Rad Dixon’s second album. This project will be completed and ready for release early next year. I am also working on some other rhythm projects that I plan to release soon,” Smith shared.
Tasjay Production has been in operation since 2003. The label has produced songs for several acts, including Kulcha Knox, Chopper John, Anthony B and Luciano, among several others.
