Dennis Gordon says PNP will win 10 seats in Kingston & St Andrew
KINGSTON, Jamaica–The Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) needs a minimum of 32 seats to form government and St Andrew East Central will be one of those seats, according to PNP Region 3 Chairman and caretaker for the constituency, Dennis Gordon.
“We don’t believe in hype, we believe in delivering for the people, and I have delivered for the people of East Central (St Andrew) and I will continue to do so,” Gordon pledged on Saturday night as he addressed thousands of party supporters in Cross Roads, St Andrew.
He will face the JLP’s Davion Vassell, an attorney, in the September 3 General Election. St Andrew East Central has long been described as a PNP bastion, but the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has indicated that it will be targeting those seats considered PNP strongholds.
Gordon believes, however, that St Andrew East Central will remain in the column of the PNP when the ballots are counted on election night.
“We need minimum 32 (seats); East Central is the first of that 32, and as the captain of this ship (Region 3), I have picked or select(ed) the best team ever, and I can assure you that we are going to move from six to 10 (seats in Kingston and St Andrew),” Gordon told the jubilant comrades.
He did not elaborate on which four seats the PNP believes it will snatch from the JLP in Kingston and St Andrew. However, Kingston Central, St Andrew Eastern, St Andrew East Rural and St Andrew West Rural are reportedly the prime targets for the Opposition party.
