Ralford Mullings shatters Jamaican men’s discus record
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Ralford Mullings has smashed the Jamaican national men’s discus record after he threw a massive 72.01m at Saturday’s Oklahoma Throws Series held at Ramona, Oklahoma in the United States.
The University of Oklahoma student/athlete who won the NCAA Division One Outdoor title this year as well as the Jamaican national championships, broke the 70.78m set by Fedrick Dacres in 2019 at a Diamond League meeting in Morocco.
The distance also surpassed his previous lifetime best of 69.67m set last year at the same venue.
Mullings, who has also qualified for the World Athletics Championships next month in Tokyo, Japan, moved up 10 places to fifth in the world on the World Athletics rankings and eight best all time.
Olympic Games gold medallist Roje Stona was second with a personal best 70.17m, beating the 70.00m that he threw in Paris last year to break the Olympic record.
