KINGSTON, Jamaica – Nekeisha Burchell, the People’s National Party (PNP) caretaker for St James South, is claiming that the ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) is attempting to buy votes from PNP supporters in the constituency.

Burchell, during a tour of the constituency on Friday, said she had received multiple reports from party supporters about the issue.

“My comrades, I got some voice notes from some comrades in this same community and others that the labourites are coming around and offering them any amount of money they want to vote. They are targeting the PNP. Because when Homer Davis came to this constituency, he came in thinking that it was going to be an easy run and then when I entered the race, he said, be careful, labourites because she can rev up the PNP base and she can attract the young people and it’s prophecy because so said, so done,” Burchell told party supporters.

Burchell also criticised Davis, claiming he has failed to deliver on promises made to residents of St James South.

“All across this constituency, the things he promised that he would do in 100 days, not start yet. When Luchi from Maldon asked him about the road, he said, Luchi’s being negative. Don’t ask me about that. Don’t bring the negativity. I will fix the road next term. A who and him. Unu plan to give him a next term?,” Burchell questioned.

She emphasised that elected officials are chosen to serve the people, not the other way around, and warned constituents not to be swayed by superficial gestures.
