PNP and JLP running late in Westmoreland Western
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica — There are concerns of a possible crowd control issue in Grange Hill, the nomination centre for Westmoreland Western, as the People’s National Party (PNP) standard bearer, Ian Hayles and his supporters are running behind schedule.
Hayles, who lost his Hanover Western seat in the 2020 general election to a first time politician, Tamika Davis, who ran on a Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) ticket was scheduled to be nominated anywhere between 10:00 and 10:45 this morning.
The JLP standard bearer Dr Garfield James was scheduled to be nominated anywhere between 11:30 and 12:15 am. James replaces the first term Member of Parliament Morland Wilson, who won the seat on a JLP ticket in 2020.
However, up to shortly after 11:45 neither of the candidates had arrived.
The nomination centre located at the Gordon Hall in Grange Hill opened its doors at 10:00 am. Independent candidate Bilbert Lancaster James entered the centre and was nominated at 10:20 am.
