Man remanded over alleged $500,000 motor vehicle scam
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A man accused of fleecing another man of $500,000 in an alleged motor vehicle scam was remanded in custody when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday.
TK Fuller is charged in relation to the incident.
Allegations are that the complainant paid Fuller $500,000 in two separate instalments for the purchase of a motor vehicle, after Fuller reportedly told him he was involved in the car business.
Fuller allegedly informed the complainant that he had secured the car but was having it cleaned. However, after some time, the complainant reportedly stopped hearing from him.
A report was subsequently made to the police, and Fuller was arrested and charged.
When questioned in court by Parish Judge Venice Blackstock-Murray about the whereabouts of the complainant’s money, Fuller claimed he had given the $500,000 to a supplier to purchase the vehicle but did not receive the car.
“The $500,000 me give the person to deal with it fi me, but when me get fi realise say me get inna the middle, so the man did a use me. Him give me a car fi make it look like say something a gwaan, but when me check a stock, a inna the middle me deh. A $1.6 million because the man gone a foreign and left me inna everything. Me affi pay back $1.6 million,” he explained, stating that the supplier had failed to deliver the vehicle and left him to face the consequences.
Fuller further stated that he had previously sold the complainant’s friend a Toyota Fielder, but that friend was allegedly using the vehicle to carry out robberies. As a result, he claims to be repaying $1.6 million in compensation to the victims, which has placed him under financial strain.
He also noted that it was the complainant’s friend who initially introduced the complainant to him.
Fuller is scheduled to return to court on September 8, 2025, when arrangements are expected to be made regarding how he will repay the complainant.
He is reportedly facing a similar charge in another matter.
A fingerprint order was also made.
