Moderators, questioners named for political debates
The moderators and questioners for the three political debates between the ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) ahead of the September 3 General Election have been named.
Chairman of the Jamaica Debates Commission (JDC) Brian Schmidt explained during a news conference on Tuesday that with respect to the management of the debates, the JDC relies on the services of a moderator and three panellists for each debate. One panellist will function as a social media editor who will be examining social media questions coming in. Those questions will be edited and posted in real time to the debators.
Moderator for the social issues debate on August 23 is Janella Precius. Questioners are Natalie Campbell and Romardo Lyons. The social media editor is Amoy Harriott.
George Davis will moderate the debate on the economy scheduled for August 26. Questions will be posed by Dashan Hendricks and Andrea Chisholm. Social media editor is Amoy Harriott.
The leaders’ debate between Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness and Opposition Leader Mark Golding on August 28 will be moderated by Archibald Gordon. The questioners are Dionne Jackson-Miller and Giovanni Dennis. Amoy Harriott will be the social media editor.
Based on the coin toss, the PNP will take the first question and make the closing statement in the social issues debate. The PNP will also take the first question in the debate on the economy but the JLP will make the closing statement.
In the debate between the prime minister and opposition leader, the JLP will take the first question and make the closing statement.
The public can send questions to #Jamaicadebates2025 and #Jamaicadecides2025.
