CPFSA condemns brutal killing of two toddlers in St Ann
KINGSTON, Jamaica— The Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA) has expressed shock following news of the brutal murders of two brothers in Swamp district, Moneague, St Ann.
The victims, three-year-old Shamir Henry and one-year-old Amir Saunders, were reportedly killed at their father’s home. Police believe the younger child’s father, Alaine Saunders, carried out the attack while under the influence of narcotics. The children’s mother, Alesha Henry, was also injured in the incident.
Reports indicate she had taken her older son, Shamir, to visit his younger brother Amir when tragedy struck.“This gruesome incident is beyond tragic; it is absolutely horrific! We shudder to think of what these innocent children may have endured in their final moments. Our hearts are also with the mother, who has suffered the devastating loss of her only two children,” said Laurette Adams-Thomas, CEO of the CPFSA.
Adams-Thomas said while investigations are ongoing, the agency is moving swiftly to support the grieving community. She announced that two meetings will be held, one with adults and another with children to help residents process their trauma.“Incidents such as these can cause deep trauma for residents, especially children, who may struggle to make sense of what has happened,” she said, adding that CPFSA will work alongside schools, churches, and other partners to provide counselling and long-term support.
The agency is also reminding the public to report all forms of child abuse through its 24-hour hotline at 211, via WhatsApp at 876-878-2882, email at report@childprotection.gov.jm, by visiting CPFSA parish offices, or through its social media pages.
