Premier league powerhouses collide

Man City aims to bounce back against Brighton, Liverpool hosts Arsenal in blockbuster clash

A fragile Brighton side will host a frustrated Man City side on Sunday, then it will be fireworks at Anfield when English powerhouse teams Liverpool and Arsenal collide in a blockbuster clash.

Event # 1 – EPL – Brighton vs Man City – 8:00 AM

Brighton will host Manchester City at the Amex on Sunday, August 31, aiming to kick-start their season that have gotten off to an inauspicious start.Indeed, Brighton have started the season like a team that enjoys creating chances, but not the part where they actually score them. Yes indeed, Brighton have managed just one point from their two matches played so far, after hitting the woodwork twice against Everton, missing a penalty, and still somehow managed to lose 2-0. For Brighton, wastefulness is becoming a habit, not just bad luck. It seems that Brighton have prioritisedwinning possession stats rather than matches as prior to losing to Everton they owned the possession against Fulham in their opening match, before allowing an extra time equaliser by Fulham as the match finished 1-1.

Manchester City were ambushed and beaten 2-0 by Tottenham at home last week to send their fans into panic mode.Indeed, it was a poor display by Man City just a week after they dismantled Wolves 4-0 away from home, to indicate that they will be challenging for the title this season. With that said, Man City trails their two main rivals, Liverpool and Arsenal, who have both won their opening two matches, but will be facing each other two hours after City’s match. This means Man City has the opportunity to gain ground on both or one of them, depending on if the match ends in a draw or one team wins. However, Man City must take care of business themselves by securing victory over a fragile Brighton side who they have had the upper hand against in recent times.

Key Stats

● Brighton – Brighton defeated Man City 2-1 at home last season and drew 2-2 away at the Etihad to go unbeaten against them last season.

● Man City – Man City lost 2-0 to Tottenham last week at home making it the second straight defeat they were suffering at home at the hands of Tottenham.

● Both sides – Man City has won 12 of their last 16 matches against Brighton in all competitions.

The betting Tip: Man City win.

Event # EPL – Liverpool vs Arsenal – 10:30 AM

There will be fireworks when reigning Premier League champions Liverpool and last season’s runners-up Arsenal collide in a super Sunday blockbuster clash at Anfield. Liverpool, despite not playing well, have still managed to win their opening two matches, including a late 3-2 winning away at Newcastle on Monday, when it appeared that they might hold on for a point. Having made Anfield a fortress last season, only losing to Nottingham Forest in their title winning campaign, and entering this game, Liverpool have won seven of their last nine matches at Anfield dating back to last season. However, the Reds, Liverpool, are about to face an Arsenal side that boasts the best defence in the league last season and continued where they left off as they are yet to concede a single goal from their two matches played so far.

Arsenal, on the other hand, spanked promoted Leeds 5-0 at the weekend to jump to the top of the league on goal difference, with six points, along with Liverpool and Tottenham. Indeed, the Gunners, Arsenal have scored six goals without conceding in their opening two games, having defeated another English giant, Manchester United 1-0, in their opening match of the season. With that said, Arsenal will travel to Liverpool with two of their main attacking threats indoubt for this crucial clash, as Bukayo Saka and captain Martin Odegaard are in a race to be fit for this massive showdown. However, Arsenal will have new signing Viktor Gyokeres who bagged a double in the 5-0 routing of Leeds to call on, and another big money signing in the form of England international Eberechi Eze, who was signed from Crystal Palace at the weekend, to call upon. Given Arsenal’s attacking threat and Liverpool’s impressive home record at Anfield, this game could be a cracker and a treat for fans.

Key Stats

• Liverpool – Liverpool have won their last three straight home matches and are unbeaten in each of their last eight matches at home.

• Arsenal –Arsenal’s last away win against Liverpool was back in 2012 but are on a three-match winning streak with three clean sheets during this run.

• Both sides – Both teams met twice last season and, on each occasions, the match ended in 2-2 draws.

The betting Tip: Draw.
