ST CATHERINE, Jamaica – When in Rome. People’s National Party (PNP) candidate in St Catherine South Eastern, Alfred Dawes was on the campaign trail in Portmore on Saturday and rallied supporters with lyrics from a song by one of the municipality’s favourite sons, dancehall superstar Vybz Kartel.
During his address at the St Catherine South constituency office, Dawes took jabs at Jamaica Labour Party leader and Prime Minister, Dr Andrew Holness, for suggesting that the Opposition spokesman attempted to lure him into a confrontation during a recent tour.
“Comrades, we see where the prime minister importing crowd and come a Waterford and tell lies that we block road when him have police, soldier, SWAT,” Dawes said.
He then quoted a famous lyrics from Kartel in the dancehall club banger Weh Dem A Go, featuring then fellow Portmore Empire artiste, Jah Vinci.
“[The prime minister] said that we, poor little we, block the road, when all we want to tell him is, ‘prime minister, my place ah my place! Your Place ah your place!” Dawes said to roaring shouts of approval from Comrades.
He then went on to accuse the JLP of “very dirty, underhanded tactics” in the campaign for the September 3 General Election before claiming that the governing party was “getting desperate”.
Dawes is challenging JLP incumbent Robert Miller for the St Catherine South Eastern seat in Parliament.
